“A lack of resources should not prevent a journalist from telling important stories,” Malangi Nzombola, our media ambassador from Zambia, said during the 2026 Belt and Road Journalists Forum.
From factory floors to construction sites, Malangi has documented Chinese investment projects across Zambia, exploring their impact on local employment, infrastructure and economic development. Working primarily with a mobile phone, she has continued to capture stories that matter, despite limited access to professional equipment. Her experiences also underscore the importance of balanced reporting that gives local communities a voice and examines both the opportunities and challenges of development cooperation.
