“For us journalists, chasing the unknown and uncovering the truth isn’t just a job—it’s our calling, our driving force. Let’s use words to close gaps, use images to record hope,” Zhang Zhiwen, our media ambassador from People’s Daily, said during the 2026 Belt and Road Journalists Forum.
Having witnessed the devastating impact of conflict during his years reporting in the Middle East, Zhang reflected on the value of peace and development. He also recalled his joint reporting trips with journalists from Egypt, Ghana and Kyrgyzstan, where they witnessed firsthand how Belt and Road projects were transforming local communities. For Zhang, journalism is not just about documenting events, but also about giving voice to people’s hopes for peace, prosperity and a better future.
