Media exchange fuels China-Rwanda people-to-people ties

2026-08-05

What can media exchanges lead to? Earlier this year, Home of Journalists organized a reporting and exchange program in Zhejiang province, China, bringing together journalists from across Africa for in-depth discussions on topics of shared interest. Today, those exchanges have led to a new collaboration: a special feature jointly produced by the Zhejiang International Communication Center and Rwanda’s mainstream media outlet LGIHE.

Founded in 2019, Rwanda Youth Group was created by young Rwandans inspired by Chinese culture and Chinese songs. Over the years, they have shared more than 1,000 videos on Chinese social media platforms, attracting over 10 million followers. As this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Rwanda and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, this cross-border media collaboration offers another example of how cultural exchanges can bring people closer together and deepen mutual understanding.
