On Thursday, 29 countries signed an agreement in Shanghai to establish the World AI Cooperation Organization (WAICO), a new platform aimed at advancing international cooperation and global AI governance.
AI governance is in the global spotlight as the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance opened on Friday. China pledged to provide 5,000 AI training and seminar opportunities for developing countries over the next five years, establish international AI application cooperation centers with ASEAN, the League of Arab States, the African Union, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, and help 30 countries deploy the AI-powered MAZU meteorological early warning system to better protect lives and property.
