We’ve recently noted that the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) has voiced serious concern over the US visa challenges faced by many journalists who have been duly accredited for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. AIPS has described such visa denials and restrictions as “unacceptable” and has formally called on FIFA to intervene, so that affected media representatives are not wrongfully denied entry.
We support the efforts of AIPS to safeguard journalists’ right to cover global sporting events and to protect media access. In Home of Journalists, we firmly believe that major tournaments like the World Cup are meant to unite people through sport, and the press plays an indispensable role in bringing diverse stories to the world. International sporting events should facilitate the free movement of journalists and uphold the fundamental right to information.
