China’s annual sessions to kick off

2026-03-04

China’s annual sessions of its top legislature and political advisory body, known as the “two sessions”, open this week and will run until March 12. From this year’s growth target and the 15th Five-Year Plan — which will map out the country’s development blueprint for the next five years — to three important pieces of legislation covering areas including the environment, ethnic unity, and national development planning, this year’s two sessions once again offer a key window into the policies shaping China in the year ahead and beyond.

If you are already in Beijing to cover the two sessions, the press center have also already opened at the Media Center Hotel in Beijing, where three news conferences on the economy, people’s livelihood, and foreign affairs will be held during the sessions. Heads of relevant State Council departments will respond to issues of domestic and international concern and explain policy directions.
