On the road: Experience the Spring Festival with Chinese reporters

2026-02-03

The 2026 Spring Festival is just around the corner. Starting today, we launch our new column OnTheRoad, sharing stories documented by journalists as they head to the grassroots and frontlines during China’s most important holiday — a time when around 9.5 billion inter-regional passenger trips are expected, as people head home for reunion. This campaign is a tribute to the journalists themselves, who stay on the road during this season of reunion, bringing Spring Festival stories from the frontlines to audiences near and far.

This annual reporting tradition is a time to reflect on the nation’s progress and the moments that matter most — from technological breakthroughs to improving livelihoods. It also shines a light on those who stay at their posts during the Spring Festival, the workers and strivers who help ensure a safe, smooth, and joyful holiday for all. At the same time, it captures the essence of the Spring Festival itself: reunion, celebration, and shared happiness, highlighting the warmth and resilience found in ordinary lives.

In the weeks ahead, we will regularly share journalists’ stories, offering perspectives and ideas for global journalists seeking to better understand China’s most important festival and the world’s largest annual human migration.

We’re sharing a video below as a preview of what’s to come. Follow us and stay tuned for more stories.
