Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) is a registered trade union under Labour Relations Act to protect and champion the rights and welfare of journalists.

KUJ was formed in 1962 to champion the rights of journalists and workers in Kenyan Media Sector during the pre-colonial period as a branch of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) of the UK and Ireland. The union has existed to negotiate better terms of conditions of service for journalists in Kenya and remains one of the biggest independent journalists’ union in Africa, with membership drawn from print, broadcast and Online media outlets.

The union has Chapters that represent interests of journalists in urban centres outside the capital, Nairobi. In addition, KUJ has established working partnership with international organisations interested in media development work and promotion of independent media.
